📜 February 11, 1933 — Florida Tourism History
Florida positions itself as America’s winter playground. In the depths of the Great Depression, state leaders and local businesses began intentionally marketing Florida as a warm-weather escape for Americans tired of cold winters and economic gloom. Tourism campaigns of the early 1930s highlighted sunshine, beaches, fishing, citrus groves, palm trees, and affordable lodging, presenting Florida as a place where visitors could relax, recharge, and momentarily forget their troubles.
These early efforts helped establish ideas that still define Florida today: |

🌟 Charity Spotlight of the Week: Bow in the Cloud🌟
This issue, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Bow in the Cloud, a faith-based nonprofit organization serving Marion County’s youth, young adults, families, and broader community with purpose and heart.
At its core, Bow in the Cloud is driven by the belief that every individual deserves hope, connection, and opportunities to flourish. Their mission is to serve, uplift, connect, and provide resources through meaningful programs and events — all rooted in Christian values of compassion and care.
What makes Bow in the Cloud truly impactful is its community-focused approach. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all services, the organization collaborates with local residents and partner agencies to identify real needs and build initiatives that make a tangible difference. From family support events to resource connections and outreach programs, their team works tirelessly to create a supportive environment where everyone feels seen and valued.
The name “Bow in the Cloud” itself reflects a beautiful symbol of hope and promise, inspired by the biblical meaning of a rainbow as a sign of God’s covenant — a reminder of care, faithfulness, and brighter days ahead.
Whether you’re interested in volunteering, attending community events, or supporting their mission with a donation, Bow in the Cloud invites all of us to be part of building stronger, more compassionate connections right here at home. |
